Program/University Overview:
CIEE Study Center
Located in a beautifully renovated Sevillano Palace built in 1725, the Center is centrally located and is about ten minutes on foot from the main Universidad de Sevilla building (the Tabacalera). Housed in the CIEE Study Center are classrooms, CIEE student services, and CIEE administration.

Universidad de Sevilla
Since its establishment in the 16th century, the Universidad de Sevilla has been one of Spain’s leading institutions of higher learning. The schools of Philology, Geography and History, Philosophy, Law, Communications, Labor Sciences, Mathematics, Psychology, Business, Economics, Natural Sciences, and Engineering, and its many departments and institutes, serve the educational needs of Spain’s most populous region. In total, the Universidad de Sevilla is the educational center for some 60,000 students.

Universidad Pablo De Olavide (UPO)
With 9,000 students, the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) is the second state run university in Sevilla, located on a 345-acre campus, about a twenty-minute bus ride from the center of the city. The UPO offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in the traditional majors as well as environmental sciences, biotechnology, sports sciences, translation, humanities, labor relations, second language acquisition, and social work. Its facilities are equipped with the latest in technology including campus-wide wireless Internet access, computer, television, video and audio centers, an open access library, sports facilities, and science laboratories.

Unique Aspects of Program:

  • Study with Spaniards and other international students, while earning SMC credit

  • A variety of academic options accommodate almost all majors and levels of Spanish language ability (from beginner to bilingual speakers)

  • Learn about Spanish traditions and gain insight into the culture through immersion activities organized by the CIEE Study Center

  • The academic program is supplemented with field trips and excursions to points of interest in Sevilla and Spain that highlight topics covered in class. Past excursions have included: Granada, Morocco, Cádiz and Córdoba, and Aracena.

Country and/or City Information:
Capital of Andalusia, Sevilla was one of the last footholds of the Moorish empire that ruled the Iberian Peninsula. Though the city preserves its past, modern Sevilla is the commercial hub of Andalusia. For a city of about 700,000 Sevilla offers amazing cultural activities, from flamenco to classical, pop, and jazz concerts.

Admission Requirements:
2.75 GPA Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors (3.0 for Advanced Liberal Arts program). See specific program for language requirements.

Home stay with families two meals a day at home

Cost:
If you are a student at one of the US Lasallian universities or colleges, you will remain enrolled at your school and pay tuition and program fees there. Tuition is based on your campus tuition rates and may include an additional surcharge depending on the program. Contact the person on your campus responsible for study abroad.
